### The FSF is hiring: Seeking a full-time outreach and communication
### coordinator

*From November 25th*

The Free Software Foundation seeks a motivated and organized
tech-friendly Boston-based individual to be its full-time outreach and
communication coordinator. This position, reporting to the executive
director, works closely with our campaigns, licensing, and technical
staff, as well as our board of directors, to edit, publish, and promote
high-quality, effective materials both digital and printed.

### Organize a Giving Guide Giveaway

*From November 17th*

In the flurry of holiday advertising that happens at the end of the
year, many people are swept into buying freedom-denying and DRM-laden
gifts that take more than they give. Each holiday season the FSF
releases a Giving Guide to make it easy for you to choose tech gifts
that respect your rights as a computer user and avoid those that
don't. We'll be launching 2014's guide on Black Friday (November
28th), full of gifts that are fun and free, made by companies that
share your values. Organize an event to help people choose electronics
gifts that actually give more than they take.

### Back in stock: a ThinkPenguin router that respects your freedom

*From November 21st*

This is the first home wifi router on the planet that you can go out
and purchase that ships only with software that respects your freedom.
In September, we awarded use of the Respects Your Freedom (RYF)
certification mark to the ThinkPenguin Wireless N-Broadband Router
(TPE-NWIFIROUTER). But, within days of our press release, ThinkPenguin
sold out of their inventory! However, today we are happy to announce
that they have replenished their stocks (this time with a new case,
but the same chipset and software).

### Software Freedom Conservancy and Free Software Foundation announce
### copyleft.org

*From November 7th*

Software Freedom Conservancy and the Free Software Foundation (FSF)
announce an ongoing public project that began in early 2014: Copyleft
and the GNU General Public License: A Comprehensive Tutorial and Guide,
and the publication of that project in its new home on the Internet at
copyleft.org. This new site will not only provide a venue for those who
constantly update and improve the Comprehensive Tutorial, but is also
now home to a collaborative community to share and improve information
about copyleft licenses, especially the GNU General Public License
(GPL), and best compliance practices.

### The sharks move in; lobbyists pushing forward on TPP agreements

*From November 24th*

The latest leaked draft of the TPP reveals that the countries involved
in the negotiations are coming closer to acceptance of a whole host of
problematic agreements. On October 16th, WikiLeaks released an updated
draft of the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) Strategic Partnership
Agreement chapter on copyright, patent and other proprietary
interests. A previous draft had been released last year. If you aren't
familiar with TPP, it is a multinational trade-agreement that is being
developed through a series of secret negotiations that when enacted
will have a vast effect on civil liberties, including the ability of
users all around the world to enjoy software freedom.

### GNU Press has restocked!

*From November 6th*

GNU Press has restocked popular gear including shirts, hoodies,
beanies, and GNU emblem brass pins. We are also reintroducing the
GPLv3 shirt in gray, and lowering the price of the GNU30 commemorative
travel mug. We have also added 3XL sizes for some of our most popular
designs!

### GNU Tools Cauldron 2014 videos posted online

*From November 4th*

Presentation videos from GNU Tools Cauldron 2014 have now been posted
online. The conference, which this year was held from July 18 - 20,
2014 in Cambridge, England at the University of Cambridge, featured
nearly thirty presentations on tools in the GNU toolchain including
GCC, the GNU Compiler Collection, and GDB, the GNU Project Debugger.
Developers shared tutorials and insights in addition to discussing
development plans for various projects within the GNU toolchain.

### Join the FSF and friends in updating the Free Software Directory

*From December 1st*

Tens of thousands of people visit directory.fsf.org each month to
discover free software. Each entry in the Directory contains a wealth
of useful information, from basic category and descriptions to version
control, IRC channels, documentation, and licensing. The Free Software
Directory has been a great resource to software users over the past
decade, but it needs your help staying up-to-date with new and
exciting free software projects.

To help, join our weekly IRC meetings on Fridays. Meetings take place
in the #fsf channel on irc.gnu.org, and usually include a handful of
regulars as well as newcomers. Everyone's welcome.

The next meeting is Friday, December 5 from 2pm to 5pm EST (19:00 to
22:00 UTC). Details here:

  *
<https://fsf.org/blogs/directory/friday-free-software-directory-irc-meetup-december-5>

After this meeting, you can check <https://www.fsf.org/events> to see
the rest of this month's weekly meetings as they are scheduled.

### LibrePlanet featured resource: LibrePlanet Rapid Responders

Every month on LibrePlanet, we highlight one resource that is
interesting and useful -- often one that could use your help.

For this month, we are highlighting LibrePlanet Rapid Responders, a
network of activists who aim to spread the free software philosophy in
the press, blogs, forums, and social media. We invite you to join this
group and help us respond immediately to articles, posts, and
discussions related to free software.

To get announcements of most new GNU releases, subscribe to the
info-gnu mailing list:
<http://lists.gnu.org/mailman/listinfo/info-gnu>. Nearly all GNU
software is available from <http://ftp.gnu.org/gnu/>, or preferably
one of its mirrors (<http://www.gnu.org/prep/ftp.html>). You can use
the url <http://ftpmirror.gnu.org/> to be automatically redirected to
a (hopefully) nearby and up-to-date mirror.

This month, we welcome Roel Jansen as the author of the new GNU package
InklingReader.

A number of GNU packages, as well as the GNU operating system as a
whole, are looking for maintainers and other assistance: please see
<http://www.gnu.org/server/takeaction.html#unmaint> if you'd like to
help. The general page on how to help GNU is at
<http://www.gnu.org/help/help.html>. To submit new packages to the GNU
operating system, see <http://www.gnu.org/help/evaluation.html>.

As always, please feel free to write to me, <karl@xxxxxxx>, with any
GNUish questions or suggestions for future installments.

### GNU Toolchain update

*From November 17th*

The GNU toolchain refers to the part of the GNU system which is used
for building programs. These components of GNU are together often on
other systems and for compiling programs for other platforms.

This month, there were many new updates, especially to GCC.

### Take action with the FSF

Contributions from thousands of individual members enable the FSF's
work. You can contribute by joining at <https://www.fsf.org/join>. If
you're already a member, you can help refer new members (and earn some
rewards) by adding a line with your member number to your email
signature like:

I'm an FSF member -- Help us support software freedom!
  <https://www.fsf.org/join>

The FSF is also always looking for volunteers
(<https://www.fsf.org/volunteer>). From rabble-rousing to hacking,
from issue coordination to envelope stuffing -- there's something here
for everybody to do. Also, head over to our campaign section
(<https://www.fsf.org/campaigns>) and take action on software patents,
DRM, free software adoption, OpenDocument, RIAA, and more.
