Upcoming events

Hello Everybodeee! There are a few things happening in the near future,
so I just wanted to make sure we're all in the loop.

This coming Saturday (23 February 2013) is OpenDataDay. OpenDataWR has
arranged with Kwartzlab to have an Open Data Hackathon from 2:00pm to
10:00pm. There's info at
http://wiki.opendataday.org/Kitchener-Waterloo2013 and a spot where you
can add your name if you're coming. If you don't want to sign up on that
wiki let me know and I can add you. Programming skills not necessarily
required; designers are needed, librarians to organize data,
mathematicians to do statistics, artists to make infographics, &c.

The weekend following, Fri-Sat 1-3 March 2013 is the Ubuntu Global Jam.
Neither Darcy nor I will be available that weekend, so it would be great
if someone can set up a meeting place. Suggestion: A Matter Of Taste is
a downtown Kitchener coffee shop with customer-friendly electrical
outlets under the seats; good for 8-10 people to gather. A global jam
doesn't require programming skills either. Just install the latest
Ubuntu release, and report any bugs or incompatibilities you run into.
There's a list of other activities

Charles McColm is hosting an Ubuntu Hour on Friday, 1 March 2013 at the
Egg Roll King restaurant. It happens to be the first day of the Global
Jam, so I'll probably have the latest .ISO for Raring Ringtail,
available for copyingto a thumb drive. I dont' think we'll get much
jamming in at ERK, though.

Finally, at the last IRC meeting we talked about setting up a LoCo
ReApproval Application Partyto polish up the pages at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/CanadianTeam/ReApprovalApplication2012 An
Approved LoCo (Local Community team, ie. Ubuntu Canada) receives Ubuntu
branded disks at each release. The LoCo Council
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/LoCoCouncil/ holds meetings at which teams are
re-approved. There's actually a meetingin IRC today at 4:00pm; the next
one is on 19 March 2013. It would be good to have our ReApproval ready
for the March meeting so that we can get disks shortly after the Raring
Ringtail release on 25 April. Re-approval page polishing could be done
during the Global Jam. If not then, how about sometime on Saturday, 9
March? Let me know who's available when.
