Public bug reported:

Have a fresh Ubuntu 14.04 installation with all updates. After going to
gmail.com in firefox pop-up message was displayed about installation of
gmail app. Installed, loged in, and now every time app launches the
whole system freezes - only hard reset helps.

$ lsb_release -rd
Description:	Ubuntu 14.04.1 LTS

$ apt-cache policy unity-webapps-gmail
unity-webapps-gmail:
  Installed: 2.4.16+14.04.20140409-0ubuntu1.1
