[Bug 396546] [NEW] Ctrl-Alt-F1 does not drop to a console

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

Note: this works using the 2.6.31-1 kernel on the same computer.

Using an up-to-date karmic, when using the key combination Ctrl-Alt-F1,
I do not get a console. Instead, the screen freezes and I get the weird
color corruption on the background, as seen in the screenshot. Pressing
Ctrl-Alt-F7 brings back the desktop.
