So if I read your comments correctly, you've ruled out the 06 patch as a
culprit?  I.e. you can reproduce the crash with or without it?

It sounds like you find the bug occurs only a proportion of the time
(which might explain why it at first seemed correlated to the patch)?

At this point it sounds like the unity initialization process is
misbehaving when the nvidia driver is present.  I'll update the title.
