Public bug reported:

Following instructions on Ubuntu download site, I installed the CD
download on an 8GB thumb drive.  I used the pendrive application to
create a 2GB space for storage.

My guess is installing the nvidia driver couldn't work because of this
configuration.  However the message was not helping in resolve the
problem.
