Issue is still present in virtualbox.
If I disconnect the session and login another one after a few seconds the issue is visible (it switch automatically to a gtk not themed)

ii  gnome-settings-daemon                 2.32.1-0ubuntu12

I've tried "echo sleep 5 > /etc/X11/Xsession.d/50slowdownthere" as root
but issue is still present
