[Bug 749835] [NEW] Display freezing on startup (dell inspiron 6400/1505 with geforce 7300 go)

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

After installing the nvidia proprietary driver, the display would freeze
at the point when the top bar was loaded, and a dialog requesting the
password to unlock the keyring was also displayed. It is set up to login
automatically. When switching with ctrl-alt-f1 and back to ctrl-alt-f7
the display is black with only the cursor showing. Before installing the
proprietary driver "nomodeset" was needed to prevent display corruption,
the setting has no effect for the proprietary driver. The notebook is a
dell inspiron 6400/e1505 with a geforce 7300 go graphics card.
Suspending then resuming gives the same black screen.
