Message #117850
[Bug 754285] [NEW] poor performance, display corruption
Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-nouveau
I started with basic Natty, and experienced this problem, so I tried the
xorg-edgers ppa to see if the problem was fixed (it was not).
In dmesg, I get many instances of this error:
[drm] nouveau 0000:01:00.0: no space while hiding cursor
Unlike some other bug reports about this same message in dmesg, I do not ever experience mouse cursor disappearance.
The performance drops off rapidly as a function of how long the system is running (after about a day, the system is *really* sluggish). The attached data was generated after 1.5 days of uptime, and the laptop is horribly slow right now.
Also, I get display corruption frequently (the longer the system is running, the more often / more severely it happens). A small block (perhaps 50x20px) of output displayed elsewhere on the screen gets put in a random place. For example, a rectangle from the top left of the display may be rendered in the bottom right, completely out of place. If I run the mouse cursor over the corrupted area, it usually (but not always) fixes the corruption.
I believe these reports are duplicates or strong relatives:
