Message #125260
[Bug 774173] [NEW] It would be SO very nice if you would please re-enable Ctrl-Alt-Backspace by default.
Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: xorg
I do not recall the discussion about WHY Ctrl-Alt-Backspace was
disabled, but It would be super nice if we could re-enable that by
default. Expecting users to just reboot their machine, or drop to a
shell and manually restart X whenever X goes wonky is a bit much.
For example, I'm currently doing Natty certification testing across a
LOT of laptops and I've encountered SEVERAL systems where eventually I
needed to restart X because the display just died (usualy this is a
result of trying the various resolutions supported by the video card).
in every case, I'm forced to drop to a shell and manually kill X, where
a Ctrl-Alt-Backspace would have been sufficient. The key combo is
probably as likely to be hit accidentally as Ctrl-Alt-Del is, and I
can't see any real arguments against not allowing this by default.
Yes, one answer is that users can re-enable it if they wish, but when
i'm installing and testing and re-installing nearly 100 systems,
manually re-enabling this on every one every time I re-install is not
viable. Yeah, that's just me, but I know I'm not the only Ubuntu user
in that situation.
** Affects: xorg (Ubuntu)
Importance: Undecided
