[Bug 795272] [NEW] EDID won't be read resulting in black screen at boot

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

After updating my fresh install of Ubuntu 11.04, it stopped booting, showing only a black screen, booting from a LiveCD worked just fine.
Ubuntu would start in recovery mode, with low graphics, and after editing boot options to not include "quiet splash", the normal boot option booted into Ubuntu classic (no effects) (I'm bypassing GDM and not using Unity). However the highest possible resolution is 1024x786, whereas it should be 1080p. Everything else (Sound, Video (flash), etc) is working fine.
Using read-edid it seems to me, that EDID won't be read correctly, this worked fine before the updates and using the LiveCD.
I will attach a copy of the Xorg.0.log from the LiveCD boot.

I'm using the radeon driver on an old ATI Radeon 9800 Pro (R350). The
update involved xorg 2:1.10.1-1ubuntu1.1.
