[Bug 819443] [NEW] X fails to start properly when using the open source radeon/ati driver

Public bug reported:

I am using Ubuntu Oneric. Everything used to be fine, but recent updates
(up to two and a half of week ago) broke my X. It works okay when I use
the FGLRX driver, but when I uninstall it, it does not start properly.
Instead of getting to the login screen, I see a black screen, with an
X-shaped mouse pointer, and nothing else.

I've sent the apport report, how else can I help?
