[Bug 837208] [NEW] System freezes during login after upgrade from Ubuntu 10.10 to 11.04

Public bug reported:

I have upgraded my desktop from Ubuntu 10.10 to 11.04(both amd64)
Upgrade was completed successfully. System was rebooted and I got the graphical login prompt.
Every thing was normal for some time, but while I typed the password system got frozen.
Mouse pointer got stuck and system stopped responding to mouse and keyboard.
I tried (hard)rebooting multiple times, and each time the behaviour was same.
I had not experienced any such issues with Ubuntu 10.10.

After some search I found nouveau driver could be the suspect.
So I boot up into recovery console, removed "xserver-xorg-video-nouveau" package and installed the nvidia proprietary driver "NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-275.21" instead. This solved the problem and the system is working fine.

System details:
Type: Desktop
Hardware: HP Compaq 8100 Elite Convertible Minitower
CPU: Intel Core i5 CPU 650 @ 3.20GHz (amd64)
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 550 Ti

** Affects: xserver-xorg-video-nouveau (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
