When this occurs my screen dims and requires a FN (function) up arrow
(to increase brightness) as I type this the screen is slowly dimming to
a point i would compare to running on battery, or night time vision
level.  This has been a consistent problem since 11.11.  I have noticed
that this occurs quite often when i log back in after long periods of
inactivity.  Particularly  today i was listening to local internet radio
station.  It had been on over night and I needed to refresh my proxy.
As I saw the desktop screen is when i got the error message and then the
error message crashed.  This problem occurs even while not being on the
Internet, and not actively using the network, wireless or eithernet.  It
will require a reboot to get the display to operate normally again.
