[Bug 878182] [NEW] update to xserver-xorg-core 2:1.7.6-2ubuntu7.8_amd64 breaks all opengl support (intel chipset)

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-core

I have Ubuntu 10.04 LTS, 64bits

an update of xserver-common and xserver-xorg-core arrived today that,
once I had restarted my laptop, made compiz crash (and going into
"fallback mode") and no other application using opengl was able to run
(e.g. glxgears). compiz-check was failing too.

After some googling, I found several threads related to the crash report
from compiz, and tried some solution. the only one that worked was
forcing xserver-xorg-core version to 2:1.7.6-2ubuntu7 (lucid) instead of
the latest 2:1.7.6-2ubuntu7.8 (lucid-updates)

After downgrading, everything works fine again (at least compiz,
glxgears)

The error message from compiz (and compiz --replace) is:

compiz (core) - Fatal: Root visual is not a GL visual
compiz (core) - Error: Failed to manage screen: 0
compiz (core) - Fatal: No manageable screens found on display :0.0

    Launching fallback window manager

compiz-check error message was :

At least one check had to be skipped:

Of course, after downgrading, everything works
