[Bug 417617] [NEW] Installing flgrx driver prevents Xorg from loading on Karmic Alpha 4 with Radeon HD 4650

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

flgrx works with Jaunty. However with Karmic Alpha-4, the flgrx just
displays black, and turns off the monitor. This occurs both with the old
ati-driver-installer-9-5-x86.x86_64.run driver that I downloaded that
work fine with Jaunty, and the flgrx drivers installed by the restricted
driver manager. Ctrl-Alt-F1 does not do anything.

$ lspci | grep VGA
02:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc RV730 PRO [Radeon HD 4650]

This bug is reported from Jaunty, as I cannot use apport without X, and
also I cannot boot into textmode either due to Bug #203385.

The radeon driver works fine (except that it doesn't support 3D
acceleration on this card).
