[Bug 426259] Re: Display problem with Ubuntu 9.04 on Thinkpad SL400

I've also been affected by this. It happens only once in a while, and it
seems to take place after applying a set of updates that require a
reboot. To work around this bug, open the "screen settings" dialog
(under System -> Preferences) and uncheck the "mirror screens" option.
Since it's a laptop using just a single screen, it shouldn't be enabled
in the first place, I don't know why it's enabled by default.

Once you uncheck that option, the "Resolutions" combo-box should allow
you to select "1280 x 800 (16:10)". Your desktop should now cover the
whole screen and it shouldn't look "stretched" anymore. Please let me
know if it solves your problem

I can contribute with logs / hardware specs if needed. Unfortunately I'm
not experienced enough to take matters in my own hands; I'll be glad to
help though.

Cheers
