[Bug 449350] [NEW] The DynamicPM option makes the X server use 100% CPU

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-ati

I am using a laptop with a radeon X1600 graphic card. To reduce heat
and increase battery life, I would like to reduce the frequency of the
GPU and graphic RAM.

With Ubuntu up to intrepid I was using the fglrx driver and could do
what I want.

Since jaunty I am using the xserver-xorg-video-radeon driver. In karmic
a new driver option appeared:

       Option "DynamicPM" "boolean"
Enable dynamic power mode switching. This can help reduce heat and increase battery life by
reducing power usage when the system is idle (DPMS active). The default is off.

Unfortunately, when I activate it, the X server uses 100% CPU (but seems to work well otherwise).
I tried "strace -p PID_OF_THE_X_SERVER" to know what the X server is doing with the CPU, but the X server locked up.
