yes this seems to be a problem with having 2 monitors on the nvidia
card, as once I disconnect the second monitor as per topdownjimmy's
suggestion, live cd boots fine.
Still have not been able to get a log of when things are failing, but
have attached log from booting with just 1 monitor connected.
