[Bug 471458] [NEW] Live CD / Desktop freezes on boot. NVIDIA Problem?

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-nv

I could not get the 9.10 Live CD to work without freezing at the
desktop. The desktop would freeze 12 seconds after boot. No response
from keyboard or mouse. A hard reboot is required. I installed 9.10
Ubuntu 64 using the alternate installer, and the the same problem occurs
when I boot the system.

The only way I can bypass the issue is to boot into Recovery Mode, and
then select the command line option with network support. At the prompt,
I am able to get into X by typing "gdm" or "startx". The desktop will
not freeze when I do so, and I can even get the NVIDIA restricted driver
to work flawlessly. The Kernel seems to be loading something at boot,
possibly the NVIDIA driver, that's causing this problem. Ubuntu 8.10,
which installed a Vesa driver at Kernel boot, worked flawlessly.

My computer specs are:
AMD 64 (3200+) 2ghz processor
FIC KT800 motherboard
1536 RAM
NVIDIA Geforce 7300GT 512MB
