[Bug 474880] [NEW] Alienware M17 with NVIDIA GeForce 9400M G crashes gui on reboot with 173, 180, and 185 drivers.
Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: xorg
I have tried NVIDIA drivers 173, 180 and 185 for my Alienware M17 laptop
with NVIDIA C79 [GeForce 9400M G] card. After GRUB and the splash, I get
a completely black screen (no cursor). I can get to TTY but GUI is fully
crashed, 'startx' fails.
Seems similar to an NVIDIA SLI issue I had on a desktop some time ago
where I needed to manually edit the xorg.conf to get that one working.
The difference is that with the desktop issue I had a blinking cursor,
now it is a fully blank screen?
I would love to be able to show off Ubuntu 9.10 on this amazing laptop
but it is not very impressive with embedded graphics.
Thanks in advance for your help!
