[Bug 478518] [NEW] Keyboard/mouse inputs frozen/blocked for >200milliseconds

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-input-synaptics

In Ubuntu 9.10 the touchpad handling has changed such that when the main
part of the keyboard is used (but seemingly not modifer keys) then
events from the touchpad are locked-out for a couple of hundred
milliseconds after each key has been pressed.

This means that between any transition from mouse to keyboard input, the
user is required to pause and "hold-off" for around half-a-second in
order that they can be sure that their next action *is* going to be
recognised and processed; this constant pausing makes the interface
slow to use and I have found it difficult to adjust.

There is a particular problem with mapping and drawing software (JOSM
and Inkscape) that both require a constant interleaved stream of
keyboard and mouse action for operation; this are extremely hard to
use; as there is uncertainty about whether a *correctly typed& action is
going to be processed, or silently (and frustratingly) dropped.

There appears to be no way to override, or to disable, the new default
settings via System->Preferences->Touchpad.

Ideally the settings could be improved, or an option be provided for
those users that are interacting with Ubuntu and software that requires
simultaneous keyboard and mouse interaction.

** Affects: xserver-xorg-input-synaptics (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
