Message #33978
[Bug 479948] [NEW] Unable to select 3rd level characters using Alt gr (Karmic)
Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: xorg
Alt gr doesn't work when trying to choose 3rd level characters using my
HP pavillion laptop (swedish layout). Running Ubuntu 9.10 amd64.
When pressing Alt gr + 2 for making an @ nothing happens. The blinking
courser just disappears.
I have experienced the same problem before using Jaunty (32 bit).
Luckily then, when I couldn't figure it out the problem went away by
itself after a few days.
Strange thing is that the only time it seems to work is when writing inside the application Gnome-Do. Because of different architecture? It does not work inside terminal in contrary to related bugs.
I have tried the fix suggested in
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xkeyboard-config/+bug/410876 ,
but without any results.
----------
When using "xev" from terminal I get this result when pressing Alt gr (also get the same results when I press left alt-key).
FocusOut event, serial 36, synthetic NO, window 0x3e00001,
mode NotifyGrab, detail NotifyAncestor
FocusIn event, serial 36, synthetic NO, window 0x3e00001,

---------------
"xmodmap -pm" from terminal gives me:
xmodmap: up to 2 keys per modifier, (keycodes in parentheses):

KEYBOARD configuration:

_XKB_RULES_NAMES(STRING) = "evdev", "hpdv5", "se", "", "terminate:ctrl_alt_bksp,lv3:ralt_switch"
sta@staffy-laptop:~$ apt-cache policy xkb-data
xkb-data:
Installed: 1.6-1ubuntu5
Candidate: 1.6-1ubuntu5
--------------------
Nevertheless, switching to left win-key for choosing 3rd level
characters instead of alt gr, from options at keybord - layout, seems to
work, but is not satisfying.
