Hmm, screen live again after removing the attached xorg-disable-synaptics-touchpad-3.patch,
then running:

   apt-get --reinstall install xorg xserver-xorg xserver-xorg-input-all
xserver-xorg-video-all

Guess I'll have to find another way to disable the touchpad ...
