[Bug 494167] [NEW] Karmic going into "low graphics mode" after latest updates

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

After applying the latest updates to my Kubuntu installation, Xorg
stopped working

It would complain about going into "low graphics mode" but then going
into low graphics mode would not work

It would also show this message: "(EE) Microsoft Comfort Curve Keyboard 2000: failed to initialise for
relative axes." but this is a false indication, no error is actually shown in the logs if the keyboard is umplugged but Xorg malfunctions in the same way

If I edit xorg.conf to use the vesa driver, it will complain about going
into "low graphics mode" but then going into rescue mode works. (with
vesa graphics as expected)
