[Bug 494235] [NEW] [ATI Radeon HD 5870/Device 6898][Kubuntu 9.10] Color corruption upon first reboot
Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-ati
Picture says a thousand words:
http://www.standarddoubt.com/storage/wrongcolors.png
Upon a fresh install from the LiveCD graphics work perfectly, but after
updating all packages and rebooting once I get this color corruption
everywhere, even the login screen for kdm. Tried installing fglrx via
jockey-kde, but rebooting again after that caused the same color
corruption in kdm, and drew a wrongly-colored static image of my desktop
image to screen and nothing else if I tried to login. (This even
happened when I tried to login to root console.) Reinstalling from
LiveCD allowed me to start KDE but reintroduced the original problem.
x.org.0.log do not seem to show anything obviously unusual; even the
color depth is correct. I have no /etc/X11/xorg.conf (sudo ls -a
/etc/X11/xorg.conf returns "No such file or directory"). My primary
boot partition is on an external USB hard drive (which is plugged in,
mounted to /dev/sdb and booting fine), if that is somehow relevant.
Am very puzzled, please help.
