[Bug 504064] [NEW] Garbled screen when using the nv driver in lucid, with an NVIDIA GeForce 8800GS.

Public bug reported:

 affects ubuntu/xserver-xorg-video-nv

I get garbled screen colours when using an NVIDIA/XFS GeForce 8800GS
video card with the xorg nv driver in Lucid. The 190 nvidia drivers from
the nvidia-vdpau PPA work fine, although they seem to randomly reset my
machine (another bug that I haven't fully tracked down yet.) The NVIDIA
180 drivers in karmic also work fine, and do so for hours at a time
without any screen garble, which leads me to believe that this is not an
overheating problem.

The nv driver for karmic works fine with the card in question. The card
I have has 2 DVI inputs. I get garbled colours both via DVI -> VGA
adapter and VGA cable to monitor, and DVI cable direct to the monitor's
DVI port. Photo taken from my phone is attached to show whats going on,
as well as lspci and xorg log. No proprietary NVIDIA drivers, either in
X/userspace, or kernelspace are installed or loaded.
