[Bug 507847] [NEW] Display problems on boot
Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: xorg
In the past few weeks or so I have had many display related regressions
from how Karmic worked for me in last October-early December.
First, every one boot in 2-3 or so (irregularly) no cursor appears,
though mouse works fine; i.e. I can click icons and reboot the computer
using mouse. After reboot the problem is usually solved - sometimes it
takes a couple of reboots or more, but logging out and back in or
restarting gdm doesn't help. Second, display resolution sometimes
reverts to 1152x864 on boot and I have to change it back to the native
1920x1080 from display settings. Third, sometimes display shuts down in
mid-boot and no keys I press seem to have an effect.
In addition, I cannot switch to console using Ctrl+Alt+Fx even after a
successful boot. If I do, the display sometimes turns off with "no
signal", sometimes I see random colors. Often switching to console and
back makes the system unstable or causes graphical glitches. I wrote
about this part of the problem in a grub2 bug that seemed related
(#447765), but I'm no longer sure if that's really the case.
