[Bug 404502] Re: [HD 4800] Installed fglrx leads to black screen
I performed a clean install of karmic on a lennovo thinkpad t500 and the
detected radeon driver worked just fine but I thought i would try the
restricted driver. Once I installed it and restarted - all I got was a
black screen with a non-blinking cursor in the upper left. I was unable
to switch to any terminals to correct the issue.
I ended up reverting back to the ati driver with the live cd, chroot, and following the instructions at:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Troubleshooting/FglrxInteferesWithRadeonDriver#Problem:%20%20Need%20to%20fully%20remove%20-fglrx%20and%20reinstall%20-ati%20from%20scratch
I thought I'd report the issue but I'm no longer blocked. Kudos for a great product. i'll stick with the non-restricted stuff.
Thanks!
jim
