Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

This bug appears to have been reported under #492271.

I upgraded to Karmic from Jaunty.  Upgrade was smooth, but immediately
after restart Karmic froze after login in about a minute. Serach on
forum yielded following workarounds which helped to restore normalcy,
but with visual effects = None.

(1) Change /etc/xdg/compiz/compiz-manager file to replace "compiz_name=compiz.real" to "compiz_name=metacity"
(2) Before Karmic could freeze, in the 30 seconds that one gets after boot, change System->Preferences->Appearance->Visual Effects = None.

Both changes seem to be needed to keep desktop working without visual
effects.
