[Bug 216118] Re: Login screen is corrupted, impossible to run LiveCD Ubuntu 8.04 Beta AMD64

None of the nvidia drivers have ever worked with my AMD 64 system now
running 8.04, 2.6.24-27, Gnome 2.22.3 and this controller (C51PV
(GeForce 6150) rev a2). No matter what driver is installed by 'synaptic
package manager', when I try to enable an nvidia driver in 'hardware
drivers', it always reinstalls nvidia-glx-new (currently
169.12+2.6.24.18-27.5), which is not usable and causes X to revert to a
generic 800 x 600 screen, throughly messed up (the login and password
windows are somewhere SE of the bottom corner of my screen).

Too bad, since I need OpenGL
