[Bug 565382] [NEW] EDID configuration needed for NVIDIA driver

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

My computer is a Sony Vaio VPCF11M1E with screen resolution of 1920*1080
and a NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M graphics card. After installation of Lucid
Beta2 the appearance is not entirely correct (the screen shows a part
of 2048*1536 that is the maximum resolution of the graphics card) and I
thus started Hardware Drivers (jockey) in order to activate the
proprietary NVIDIA driver. However, there are some error messages after
activation (e.g. "This driver was just disabled, but is still in use")
and after the next boot the screen is shifted a third to the left (the
left edge and menus are actually at the right part of the screen) at low
resolution.

After some help and www-searching, I have learned that this issue is due
to that the latest NVIDIA drivers do not support the screen on a Sony
Vaio automatically and that is required to explicitly specify the EDID
dataset. The problem is rather easy to deal with by adding the following
two lines to the "Device" section of xorg.conf:

    Option "ConnectedMonitor" "DFP-0"
    Option "CustomEDID" "DFP-0: /proc/acpi/video/NGFX/LCD/EDID"
