We've definitely never shipped the Gallium3D driver and I'm pretty sure
we've never shipped the classic mesa driver in the official Ubuntu
archives. Upstream is not interested in supporting 3D (as in: caring
very much about bugs that don't have a fix attached) yet, and we're not
going to support it before them :).
You may be thinking of the xorg-edgers PPA, which contains a build of
mesa with both the classic DRI and Gallium3D drivers.
