Message #64535
[Bug 568155] [NEW] 3D acceleration for legacy cards is missing
Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-nouveau
I don't know if this was done on purpose or not, but the latest nouveau
package is missing the /usr/lib/dri/nouveau_vieux_dri.so file. This
means, that 3D acceleration for cards older than GeForce FX is missing
now (newer cards may use Gallium3D driver and thus do not need this
library).
This came as a surprise, as in Lucid Alpha packages this file was
present. Now, for example, glxgears framerate dropped from ~2000 to
~400.
Dear package maintainers, please, either fix it or explicitly state that
change in the changelog (that 3D acceleration was intentionally
dropped).
** Affects: xserver-xorg-video-nouveau (Ubuntu)
Importance: Undecided
Status: New
