[Bug 563774] Re: Invalid EDID for Dell SP2309W in VGA mode

I went back to karmic to run gtf and cvt - they produced slightly
different modelines, but I was more concerned about them selecting
197.97 mHz as the pixel clock rate when the Dell specification and the
EDID modeline says 156.75. I ran "cvt --reduced 2048 1152 60" and was
astonished to see that it recommended EXACTLY the same modeline as Xorg
reports when it decodes the EDID.

I have two different display adapter chipsets and three drivers that all
generate desktop images that are too big or are misaligned with the
physical screen. That eliminates a lot of potential causes. The problems
occur on three different versions of Xorg, so the screen is heavily
implicated. However, the EDID data matches the modeline recommended by
cvt. What else can be wrong?
