[Bug 577236] [NEW] Xorg 100% CPU usage (radeon, maybe compositing-related)
Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: xorg
For the last couple of days, my laptop has been "freezing" after 0-10
minutes. Today I tried to SSH in and discovered that X was running at
100% on one CPU. Output of top:
PID USER PR NI VIRT RES SHR S %CPU %MEM TIME+ COMMAND
1086 root 20 0 280m 83m 14m R 99 4.1 7:44.98 Xorg

2444 todd 20 0 195m 24m 16m S 12 1.2 3:39.12 Mathematica

This afternoon, I went about an hour without it happening, and I decided
not to report a bug. Then I tried to enable metacity compositing (just
to see what it was like; my hopes for enjoying it weren't that high),
and this seemed to cause the problem to appear.
I've got two more recent X bugs open. I'm starting to wonder if it's me.
If there's a diagnostic I can run to see if I have a hardware quirk, I'd
be happy to try it.
