[Bug 577274] [NEW] Black screen with mouse point after switching user

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

Ubuntu 10.04 LTS - the Lucid Lynx using the open drivers for nvidia
card.

The screen goes black and the only thing responsive is the pointing mouse. This is the result of logging in into another user and trying to switch back to previous account. The log screen is available until I enter the password to go back. A system reboot is the only option.
Ctrl-Alt-Del is possible but no indication that anything is happening until I see the POST screen again. Trying to log in via a virtual console is not possible (using Ctrl+Alt+F1 or F2) when screen is black.
