[Bug 581568] [NEW] originally in 8.04 with Nvidia card, chaged to ATI, both good; then upgraded to 10.04 with ATI card

Public bug reported:

At first, there is an nvidia card 9600GSO (G92) under Hardy, it worked
fine.

Then, a video card change is conducted, to a new ATI 4670, under Hardy,
new driver installed from sh "the_ATI_driver_install_file.run", using
default installation. This worked fine, too.

With the initial nvidia driver not uninstalled, an upgrade to Lucid is performed in all the good manners.
In Lucid, System -> Preferences -> there are ATI catalyst control center and Nvidia X server settings, both of them. But none worked properly.

The bug is encountered using System -> Administration -> Hardware
Drivers to enable the "ATI Fire GL" (maybe this is a misprobing) driver,
Tested by the Ubuntu developers, License: Proprietary.
