Message #76603
[Bug 588950] [NEW] XVideo(?) output appears as a one-pixel strip at top of screen when two displays are enabled
Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel
When I have my LVDS display enabled as well as an external VGA display
set up to extend the desktop, many programs which output video function
incorrectly. Instead of the video being displayed in the application's
window, it is only visible as a one-pixel tall strip at the top of the
LVDS display. Dragging the window left and right moves the strip across
the top of the screen. The strip of pixels remains even after the
program terminates. The strip is never visible on the external display.
I have experienced this issue in the following programs:
- mplayer
- VLC
- Totem
- Rhythmbox (the audio visualization)
- Cheese
- Skype
- gstreamer-properties
In gstreamer-properties the display method can be modified. The bug only
occurs of I select "X Window System (X11/XShm/Xv)" for the plugin, and
"Intel(R) Textured Video" for the device. The "Intel(R) Video Overlay"
device and the "X Window System (No Xv)" plugin function correctly
If I have the external monitor clone the LVDS display, the video is
displayed correctly
To reproduce:
- Setup an external monitor to extend the desktop
- Run gstreamer-properties
- Go to the Video tab
- Select "X Window System (X11/XShm/Xv)" for the plugin
- Select "Intel(R) Textured Video" for the device
- (The pipeline is then shown to be: xvimagesink device="0")
- Click test
