Message #80756
[Bug 589140] Re: [i855gm] VGA out flickering after upgrade to lucid (regression)
I see exactly the same thing as Daniel Kulesz mentions at #5.
The problem occurs at 1024x768, 60hz and 70hz, and goes away at 75hz (Thanks for finding and reporting this, Daniel!)
Since I originally thought this was related to
Bug #541511 - MASTER: [i855] GPU lockup (apport-crash)
I have tried all the workarounds known from man as mentionned at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Bugs/Lucidi8xxFreezes
I could get rid of the boot freeze, but not of the (very intense)
flickering, until I ran into Daniel's finding. For certain patterns of
display activity, the screen was flickering so strongly that it was
mostly unreadable.
I'm running
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: Intel Corporation 82845G/GL[Brookdale-G]/GE Chipset Integrated Graphics Device [8086:2562] (rev 01)
on a Intel motherboard (Pentium M Intel reference motherboard).
Screen used is a Hyunday L72S
