Message #81092
[Bug 598937] [NEW] nvidia drivers work great except flash playback is very choppy and if i watch a video with vlc the system will lock up(running xfx 7600gt) worked just fine until a couple releases ago, now my system is useless in ubuntu.
You have been subscribed to a public bug:
for 3 years i ran the same hardware with every release of ubuntu and it
ran perfectly, until about 6 months ago. now i have issues with
sound/video/flash. the sound doesn't work right, the settings won't
stay where i put them and the playback is low and choppy. the nvidia
drivers look pretty with compiz, but with or without compiz the computer
freezes up when i play a video with vlc-works fine until every 5-10
videos it freezes. i get errors with movieplayer--connection
terminated, etc. trying to watch a flash video online is pointless,
because after 20 seconds of playback it stops working and is unwatchable
and choppy, etc.
i only used ubuntu with this pc I have not changed the hardware, but now it is completely useless and i've had to go back to windows because it works perfectly in windows. i've tried suse/slackware/gentoo/etc. the sound problem hasn't shown up in those distros, but the video playback(freezing the pc and choppy/unwatchable flash) is the exact same as in ubuntu.
i'm assuming the video problems have to do with nvidia's drivers, since
the ~ 2-3 year old drivers(which nvidia does not make available for
download) worked JUST FINE. still, the alsa problem is a total show
stopper on its own, for me, in ubuntu.
