Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-ati

While kernel modesetting is enabled, it is not possible to select
resolutions lower than 1024x768 in gnome-display-properties sucessfully.
Attempts to do so result in a white screen until the original resolution
is restored.  Does not happen when KMS is disabled.  Video card is ATI
Mobility Radeon X700 and OS version is Ubuntu 10.04 LTS.

2. Choose 1024x768, 800x600, or 640x480 for Laptop monitor
3. Click Apply

What should happen:
The chosen resolution should take effect

What happens instead:
A white screen until Esc is pressed or the fallback timer expires
