Message #83965
[Bug 615609] [NEW] xorg removed completely by update short before midnight today
Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: xorg
the upgrade in Maverick referring to kernel 2.6.35 shortly before
midnight reomoves the complete x-server and leaves the users with a
black screen!!!!
The normal system-upgrade runs well. Bit if you start the upgrade after that, all packages which belong to the x-server will be removed. For exampe, xserver-xorg-core, xserver-xorg-video al, xserver-xorg-video-ati, xserver-xorg-video-intel and all these necessary packages!!! Through this, the complete x-server is removed and ends up in a black screen. The computer runs on, but there is no x anymore and if you reboot your machine, it won't boot anymore.
Also the Grub-Selection-menu won't show up, because of the missing x and the removed graphics driver.
Also the older Kernels do not work anymore after this upgrade!
This is a terrible desktop-bug and has high regression-potential.
Please fix this up!!!
System: Ubuntu 10.10 amd64
Kernel: 2.6.35-13 and 2.6.25-14!!
** Affects: xorg (Ubuntu)
Importance: Undecided
Status: New
