Seem issue with ,John Vivirito ..    happen to me 2 hours ago , what i
did was

Update in Ubuntu 10.10 "Maverick Meerkat"

Active  the nvidia recommand drive 
nvidiatt
rebooted then The Ubuntu 10.10 is stack at the Ubuntu logo screen ! cannot even see the user menu
