[Bug 632433] [NEW] xrandr --auto crashes ubuntu on Intel HD integrated graphics (Core i series)

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: x11-xserver-utils

This is occuring in 10.04 (install and live) and 9.10 (install and
live).

So I tried the live CD of the 10.10 beta release and attached an
external monitor to my Dell E5410. It was working like a charm after
running xrandr --auto. Both Latop- and external monitor were useable. No
Crash. Like expected.

But then I installed this 10.10 beta to my harddisk and ubuntu is
crashing again on running xrandr --auto. (Black Screen with a mouse
cursor, but no response, not possible to connect via ssh to the crashed
machine) What is going on here?

Where is the difference in the 10.10 beta live CD and the installed one?
Could it be that different intel drivers are loaded? Or could there be a
problem with xrandr?

How can I help further to locate and fix the bug?
