[Bug 653872] [NEW] KMS with Radeon HD4350 causes system to lock up completely
Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-ati
Using KMS with a Radeon HD4350 (MSI) causes the system to lock up
completely. The screen is blank, no changing to a different VT is
possible and ssh login is not possible (no response on port 22). This
happens both when booting with modesetting enabled, or when enabling
mode-setting after a boot with radeon.modeset=0 and doing:
sudo /etc/init.d/gdm stop
sudo modprobe -r drm radeon
sudo modprobe radeon modeset=1
sudo /etc/init.d/gdm start
Any ssh session that is logged in at the time will stop responding.
When drm is loaded with debugging enabled, i.e.:
sudo /etc/init.d/gdm stop
sudo modprobe -r drm radeon
sudo modprobe drm debug=1
sudo modprobe radeon modeset=1
sudo /etc/init.d/gdm start
gdm does start and I can log into my session, however it changing the VT
is not possible. Pressing e.g. ctrl-alt-f1, results in the mouse pointer
disappearing but the screen display otherwise remains the same. It is
possible to switch back to VT-8 and the mouse pointer reappears.
Once drm has be loaded with debugging, it can be removed and the first
set of commands does work (over ssh), however switching VT remains
impossible.
I've attached the kernel.log and Xorg.log and debug file for the case when drm debugging is enabled.
There's no log files for the case when the system locks up, there seems to be nothing written to the logs.
