Binary package hint: xorg

When I start booting the live cd (10.10 rc) it all appears to work as
normal, I get a loading screen, then for a moment a full-screen image
(which I guess is the new desktop background). Then the entire screen
goes black, other than the very top (which is the top 1/4 or so of the
panel at the top).

Other than this graphical problem everything seems fine, the mouse moves
(although, of course, I can't see it on most of the screen) and when I
click the panel buttons they appear clicked. Also, if (with clever use
of the keyboard) I move the top panel down to the bottom I then instead
see the top few pixels of the desktop background, instead of the brown
panel. If I enter Alt+Print+K everything goes black, but the mouse
cursor appears where it would have been (so if that was previously
hidden in the middle of the screen, it is now perfectly visible) then
gnome starts up again and the problem returns.
