[Bug 657538] [NEW] Green lines and frozen desktop. Mouse could move.

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

I have been having freezing issues, and this latest one is way beyond my
amateur ability to mess with. The image on the monitor suddenly messed
up, which I believe is what is meant by screen corruption. It looked
like what happens when the tower overheats. I'm running Ubuntu 10.04 64
bit on a MacPro. When I'm using the Mac OS, I have SMC Fan Control to
manually set the fan speed to keep things cool under high intensity
graphics situations. I am not sure what could have caused the tower to
overheat in this case.

Due to a high number of random freezes, I updated Xorg to X11 in the
hopes of solving the issue. Unpredictable freezes seemed to stop, but
now the computer consistently freezes when the Update Manager pops up in
the background. It does not cause a freeze when I open Update manager
after restarting, or if I run updates via the terminal.

In all instances, ctr+alt+back did not do anything (and yes, I do have
it enabled.) REISUB also didn't work, though I was using an apple
keyboard at the time. I had thought that right alt+F13 was the Sysreq
key, but maybe that doesn't work.

I don't know if this all is related to one another, but I figured I'd
lay it all out in one report, just in case. I've probably forgotten to
include something important you need to know. Just tell me what you need
and where I have to look to find it, and I'll do my best. I'm still very
new to Ubuntu.
