[Bug 663480] [NEW] ATI proprietary driver (fglrx) does not provide correct EDID data
Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: fglrx
I ran into this bug when using gnome-color-manager (2.32.0-0, in Pascal
de Brujin's PPA).
GCM could not correctly detect my screen and gave me an error output
when trying to dump EDID data: "failed to parse edid".
The screen's EDID is correct since get-edid/parse-edid is not affected
by this problem and gives correct results.
According to GCM's author Richard Hughes :
"GCM, like the display capplet just reads the X output property "EDID"
(and EDID_DATA for some broken drivers) which is supposed to be a cached
copy (by the display driver) to avoid hitting the hardware every time,
which is very slow.
It's likely the fglrx are not doing the EDID block copy correctly, given
that there is only the first 128 byte block present [in the GCM EDID
dump]."
Using the free driver solves the problem.
I'm using Ubuntu 10.10.
fglrx version is 2:8.780-ubuntu2.
Please tell me if you need additional information.
