[Bug 667546] [NEW] xrandr fails to find (any) output on r800

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: x11-xserver-utils

I reinstalled a system previously running 10.04 with 10.10, and went
about configuring for panning in the usual way as of xrandr:

/etc/X11/xorg.conf added:

Section "Screen"
        Identifier "Screen0"
        Device "Card0"
        Monitor "Monitor0"
        SubSection "Display"
                Viewport 0 0
                Virtual 3200 2400
                Depth 24
        EndSubSection
EndSection

Then, I run:

# xrandr --output DVI-0 --panning 3200x2400

and I get:

xrandr: cannot find output 0x47

Forgetting about panning for a moment:

# xrandr --output DVI-0
xrandr: cannot find output 0x47

I've enclosed the output of xrandr --verbose, but what I think is the
relevant line is:

DVI-0 connected 1600x1200+0+0 (0x49) normal (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 367mm x 275mm
        Identifier: 0x46

So basically, for some reason, the DVI-0 connection's identifier is
0x46, but xrandr wants to use 0x47.

For everything, it appears:

# xrandr --output VGA-0
xrandr: cannot find output 0x47

My video card is a Radeon 5750, so it's a R800.

apt-cache policy as requested in the bug reporting guidelines didn't
seem to work. I'm up-to-date as of today (10/27/10).

This worked fine with exactly these configuration steps in 10.04, and if
memory serves in 9.10.
